Department for Materials organizes and provides education for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Scientific-research work is being carried out within the framework of numerous national and international scientific projects. Good co-operation with the civil engineering industry in various professional and developmental projects has been a long tradition of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. For many years the Faculty of Civil Engineering has co-operated with several related institutions/establishments in Europe, USA and Japan, while their scientists were either principal investigators or participants in several international scientific-research projects (STREP, COST, EUREKA, TEMPUS, LIFE etc.). Many researchers are members of foreign and international professional societies and working bodies such as RILEM, NACE, ACI, New York Academy of Science, etc.
Materials Department is involved in many research activities in the field of corrosion and durability of reinforced concrete structures. The core research involves material testing, development of new materials, improvement of the manufacturing techniques, the structural performance, durability and reliability of structures.
Department is also engaged in research within scientific projects. Research is organized within scientific projects at Ministry of Science and Technology Republic of Croatia and within scientific cooperation with international and domestic scientific and branch institutions.
Departments project takes part in creating projects of all levels, gives revision for projects and studies, monitoring, consulting, expert analisis for many important and complex geotechnical tasks. Department projects also include many student projects.
